Gerald D. Schackow
Gerald Schackow was born in Akron, Ohio. Shortly after graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army for three years. He then attended the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he played football for the University of Hawaii Warriors, and more importantly, where he met his wife Joanne. In 1962, he and Joanne moved to Gainesville, Florida where Gerald graduated from the University of Florida and entered law school in 1963. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law in 1965 and began practicing law as an attorney in June of 1966. Gerald has practiced law in North Central Florida (Gainesville, Ocala, and Lake City) for over 50 years.
Initially, Gerald was a Criminal Defense attorney, as well as, a Family Law attorney. In the early 1970s, he wrote the “Florida Family Law Practice Manual,” which was published by Matthew Bender & Company, Inc., and is still a current and well-used family law publication. Soon thereafter, he began to limit his practice to personal injury work and has done that exclusively for the past 40 years. He is currently an AV rated attorney, and because he lives in Gainesville, Florida, which has 50,000 students at the University of Florida and Interstate 75 running through it, Gerald has specialized in Interstate (I-75) accidents, wrongful death cases, truck accidents, and student bicycle, motorcycle, and scooter accidents.
Gerald is currently admitted to the Florida Bar, as well as, the United States Court of the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida. During his career, he has been active in ABOTA, the Florida Justice Association, The James C. Adkins American Inn of Court as a board member and officer, the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, also as a board member and officer, the Eighth Judicial Grievance Association, and many other community clubs and legal associations.
In his free time, Gerald loves to run, bicycle, play tennis and golf, and spend time with his family. Gerald Schackow has been reviewed by his peers and has been recognized AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell©.
My wife was rear ended while standing still in traffic and sustained serious injury to her neck. The other party's insurance company tried to take her to the cleaners in so many ways, (disgusting). But Lynn Shackow and her dad were able to get us a reasonable settlement after much haggling back and forth with the other party's insurance company. We thank God for them, they were of great help to us. As far as our overall experience with auto insurance companies, let's just say, everything negative you've ever heard about them is probably true. We hope to never have to deal with them again, but if we do we will definitely have Shackow & Mercadante, P.A. on our side to fight for us.
